ORIENTATION BY MEANS OF ECHOLOCATION IN MOTHS (NOCTUIDAE: AMPHIPYRA PERFLUA)

Flight tracks of the moth Amphipyra perflua F. among the system of spherical obstacles have been investigated. Using ingenious methods, the velocity of flight and the insect position in relation to the obstacles at the moment of sound emission were determined. The near (7 cm) and the distant (12.5 cm) limits of the zone in which behavior response to the echo from obstacles was observed have been estimated. Also the main types of insect manoeuvres have been described.
